Bio

Solas Agus Scath Light and Shade Lino Prints

I am a Lino Print artist based in my home studio in Kinsale. Self-taught, I have been Lino Printing for around 15 years. Creating mainly monochrome prints, my design approach is to reduce an image down to its simplest form. I focus on the interplay of light and shadow, the positive and negative, repeating patterns to create simple, graphic style pieces. I am drawn to the simplicity of the black and white design, focussing on the composition and the contrast within the subject.

Local landmarks are a recurring theme in my work, capturing the essence and boldness of these historic and striking buildings. Similarly, old Irish coins, with their detailed design and historical significance, offer a glimpse into the cultural heritage of Ireland. Through my Lino prints, I seek to preserve and celebrate these pieces of Irish history, transforming them into contemporary art pieces that resonate with modern audiences.
