Abby Abbott is a ceramic artist living and working in West Cork, Ireland. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Visual Culture from Bates College in 2017, which is where she discovered her love of pottery. She grew up in Western Maine and moved to Ireland in 2019 to pursue a Master’s in Education. She began teaching beginner ceramic courses at Arran Street East in Dublin while she was studying on her Master’s course.

She moved to West Cork in 2022, which is where she owns and operates her home studio. She teaches ceramics courses at Kinsale Pottery. Her pottery is available in stores around West Cork, including Forest and Flock in Bantry, Balbru in Ballinascarthy and West Cork Collective in Ballinspittle.

Abby finds inspiration in the landscapes around her. From the mountains and lakes of Maine to the fields of West Cork, the colour patterns in the landscapes are translated into the glaze combinations Abby uses on her pottery. What gives her pieces their distinctive look is the vibrant greens and blues achieved by layering glazes and using glaze combinations. She also experiments with surface texture, hand carving fluted patterns on her mugs. Her ceramics collections include functional pieces that are intended for daily use in the kitchen and home. Her pottery is primarily wheel-thrown with stoneware clay and fired in an electric kiln.
